30 Years (and counting)
August
1980 began 30 years of ministry. I started out knowing I needed to
learn how to do ministry, and I was faithfully discipled in it. Now I
know that what I really need is to know the One for whom I labor still
more and more. It is knowing and trusting Jesus and constantly growing
in that faith that keeps us faithful and committed.
For
a few years now I have been involved part time in a ministry called
ReFocusing Leaders. We run year-long networks of cross cultural workers
here in Cambodia who are seeking to renew and refine their vision for
ministry and become more intentional about their personal and ministry
development. I want to see these servants of God walking faithfully in
what God has equipped and called them to do. I particularly enjoy
getting to know and encouraging other women in their personal growth
and their ministries as a table facilitator.
Occasionally
people ask me, “What does your typical day look like?” There is no
answer to that question as there are no typical days! As any woman with
a family knows, a good bit of my time is taken up in keeping my house
running and taking care of my family. I have always felt that I wanted
to be actively involved in my children's education. One of the ways I
do this is by participating in a Mom's in Touch group praying weekly
for their school and for our children. I feel this is my best
contribution to the school. However, in line with my passion to see
God's children effective and faithful long term
I also get involved in helping to orient new teachers to Phnom Penh and
life in Cambodia. I hope they will settle in well and be effective in
their work here as long as they are led to stay.
Communication
and prayer are my major responsibilities related to our ministry to the
Kuy. I prepare and send out our Kuy Updates and newsletters and keep
the website updated. I also act as supervisor for a couple of our MUP
missionary women. In addition I take on some other projects now and
then. Earlier this year I helped organize a 3 day workshop on
“Coaching.” I am also assisting one of our fellow missionaries on a
Bible story project. He is putting together series of stories for
evangelism and discipleship in Khmer. I help by reading them over;
looking for simplicity, clarity and accuracy of expression. Last month
I volunteered to help with a week long Vacation Bible School for
expatriate children – fun and exhausting.
For many years now I have also participated in a weekly women's Bible
study. This is a major contributor to my own spiritual growth. I
am in it for the long haul. Thanks for your faithfulness in praying for
me over the years.
Laboring together,
Lynn
