K'But
The
rural areas of Cambodia are quickly becoming less and less isolated as
new roads are built and old ones improved. So it is unusual to find a
village where the name of Jesus is totally unknown. But, this is just
what happened to Tom a few weeks back. He was traveling by car with two
Kuy church leaders and a Khmer pastor. They had visited the Kuy village
of Veal Veng and the day was only half gone. So, Tom suggested they go
on to another village which he had heard of but never visited. They
drove on up to another village on a fairly good road and then turned
off on a very basic ox cart path, barely wide enough for the car. One
of the men had been there, 20 years ago! They didn't really know how
far it was, or how bad the road. The trip was long and arduous. The
first problem was damage by a root to the gear shift which required
some jury-rigging to get them underway again. The second was a flat
tire caused by a huge thorn through the sidewall! They made it to
K'But after about 3 hours (15 km). Next trip in will be by motorbike!
Once
at the village they had only a few minutes. Tom had no wish to be stuck
on the forest road after dark! There was just time to establish how
some in the village were related to the Kuy church leaders, find out
they had not heard a thing about Jesus and leave a speaker memory
device with 14 basic gospel stories. There are about 20 families in the
isolated village. There is no electricity, no TV or cell phone
coverage. Please pray with us that they will really take an interest in
the stories and listen over and over. Pray that the equipment will be
well taken care of and have no problems. Pray that the Holy Spirit will
birth faith in their hearts and a church will be planted.
