Svay Damnak
Wet weather, a
muddy path and swollen rivers could not keep the Fijian "I CAN" group
from bringing the gospel to the Kuy people of Svay Damnak village. Last
July, they visited the believers in Srae Thnong village with Fijian
missionary to the Kuy, Susu. The church leader of Srae Thnong, Phol
(pronounced like Paul), took the opportunity to lead them to the remote
village of Svay Damnak. They came to a creek swollen to rainy
season heights which the van could not cross. Undaunted they went on,
swimming the creek and walking the remaining kilometers soaking wet,
yet singing praise songs.
They
must have been quite a sight; tall, wet and muddy foreigners gathered
at the home of Phol's relative. As the villagers came home from their
fields they stopped to see what was happening. Pastor Moses preached
the gospel and Veasna translated. There was much interest. The young
people asked for the Bibles that the team had carried in.
For
the intrepid "I CAN" team there was no returning to the guest house
that night. They slept on mats in their hostess' home. Next day,
Sunday, they rose very early to walk out and make it to the church
service back in Srae Thnong.
Pray for the village of Svay Damnak
- that
the Holy Spirit will continue to work, keeping what they have heard in
their minds and giving them a desire to know more about Jesus
- that the young people who have the Bibles would be able to read and understand them
- that
the believers in Srae Thnong would have a continuing burden to reach
out to the people in Svay Damnak and other remote Kuy villages
- At
the end of the rainy season the " ICAN" team will return to Svay
Damnak. Pray for this visit; that the gospel would be clearly presented
and understood and that there might be a harvest.
