Time for Harvest
This
is harvest season in Cambodia. Harvesting rice in Cambodia is very
labor intensive. No machines, just men and women (and children) with
scythes.
Spiritual
harvesting is like that in some ways. It is labor intensive. Up close
and personal is the best approach. Large meetings are not as effective
as stories shared in small groups. The foreigner preaching is not as
effective as a neighbor living his or her life in Christ and sharing
the hope that is in him.
Though
the work is back-breaking the results are satisfying in the end of the
day. If the harvest has been plentiful or even just "enough" the whole
family can rest secure for the next year. The food is there, and maybe
even some extra for those other necessities of life.
The
results of spiritual harvesting can be satisfying as well. God is
glorified and the laborers have the pleasure of knowing that He has
used them. What a privilege!
The
harvest among the Kuy in Cambodia continues. Pray for fortitude, wisdom
and grace for the workers. Pray also that God would raise up more
laborers from among the Cambodian believers and the Kuy themselves.
Pray that "ordinary" Christ-followers will tell the story naturally in
their excitement; that every believer could be a harvester.
Ask
the Lord of the harvest to raise up workers for the Kuy people in
Thailand and in Laos. Pray that Thai Kuy believers would catch a vision
for sharing the Good News with their neighbors. Ask. We can know He
will answer for he has told us to ask.
"Then
he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are
few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into
his harvest field." Matthew 9:37-38
