We are beginning a monthly prayer update for the
Kuy people of Cambodia.
We would
like to encourage as much prayer as possible so we are sending this to many
people. If you know of prayer groups or individuals who would like to pray for
this group, please feel free to forward this email to them. If you are not
interested in continuing to receive these updates, please reply to this email
and let us know.
We will remove
your name from the list.
The Kuy people are an indigenous
minority group within Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. There are probably 50,000 to 100,000 Kuy
in Cambodia (maybe as many as a million total). They have their own unwritten
language with several dialects. In
Cambodia there is no church among them. We know of only a handful of
believers. They are mostly very
poor rice farmers, who may also gather forest products to supplement this
living. Most are bi-lingual, also speaking Khmer, but illiterate in both
languages.
We are doing research to find out
about the Kuy: where exactly they are, how many there are, what is the
pre-dominant dialect, where is their “cultural” center, what are their
needs. This will help us formulate
a good plan to reach them with the gospel.
Praise
- God is leading us to
people who are helping us get an understanding of who and where the Kuy are.
We praise Him for these divine connections.
- We have benefited
from some very helpful Strategy Coordinator trainings.
- We now know of two
groups of believers among the Kuy.
Prayer points
- Pray that God would
continue to connect us with people who know about the Kuy and can help us get
an estimate of how many there are.
- Pray that God would
lead us to Persons of Peace, those whose hearts are prepared to receive the
truth and can be a way in to Kuy culture for us.
- Pray that we would be
able to organize a few University students to help do survey work in the
provinces where the Kuy are during their school break in January.
- Pray that God will
raise up partners to join us in this work, development people, linguists and
church planters.
- Pray that a great
army of people would be praying regularly for the Kuy of Cambodia.
- Pray that we will be
able to develop a web presence by the end of the year in order to facilitate
prayer and recruiting.
