Worldview
One of the first responsibilities of a Strategy
Coordinator is to understand the people he or she is
seeking to reach with the gospel. Gathering
demographic information is a good start. But we must
go deeper to understand the "worldview" of the people
so that we can be better prepared to communicate with
them. When missionaries do not take time to understand
the culture and worldview of the people, they will
make the mistake of delivering the gospel in ways
appropriate to their own culture and "foreign" to the
culture they wish to reach. This is a great hindrance
to the planting of indigenous churches. It can even
become a serious barrier to the gospel as people
assume that Christianity is a Western religion.
Questions we need to ask to understand worldview
include: What are their basic beliefs about life, God
and the spiritual world? How do they process
information? How do they express themselves? What do
the people in this society actually do? With whom do
they do it? Who makes decisions? How do they receive
information? and How do people in this society decide
what is right?
Please pray for us as we seek to understand the
worldview of the Kuy People of Cambodia. Pray that we
will ask the right questions of the right people. Ask
the Lord to give us great wisdom so that we can bring
the gospel in ways appropriate for their culture and
worldview. Ask the Lord to help us choose the Bible
stories which will best communicate Biblical truth to
this group of people. We need God's guidance to
discover the "bridges" for the gospel in this culture.
