"The forest is shrinking, said Tep Tum.  I joined a delegation to ask the King to help us preserve the forest and our way of life," she continued. "He could offer no help. We are used to gathering food from the forest, to living off it. But they have cut much of it already and we hear they will begin cutting more. Who can help us?" These anxious thoughts were expressed by our hostess in the Kuy village, a Kuy widow with experience working to survey the language and population of the Kuy in Cambodia. Though the Kuy live in settled villages and grow rice as do 80% of Cambodians, they still rely on the forest for other foods and products to sell. Their way of life is dying. So far they have not found viable ways to fill the gap. Let's pray for God's hand of mercy in this situation and that they would find Jesus and be filled with His wisdom and peace. He can provide for them.

Praise and Prayer:
1.  The linguistic survey went very well. Tom was able to help with the logistics and got to meet and establish relationships with Kuy people through it. Analysis is underway, but it looks as if there are two main distinct dialects of Kuy here in Cambodia. Pray for wisdom in the next steps of linguistic survey and for long term workers to do literacy and translation work in Kuy.

2.  Donnelly, our South African intern is fitting in well. She has done a lot of travel and observed a number of things so far. Pray for the remainder of Donnelly's practicum to be useful both to her and to our work here. She will be with us until July 20 and then join another MUP family who are doing church planting here in Phnom Penh.

3.  We had an excellent trip to a Kuy village as a family last week. We took Donnelly with us to stay for three nights with a widow in the village of Prame. It was a chance to observe Kuy life up close and to begin to learn the language. The children did really well and had fun playing with the village kids.

4.  Our Khmer friend, Rith, has set up his battery charging business in a Kuy village. Pray that he will have wisdom to know how to expand the business so that it supports him fully.

5.  Pray for Ralph and Kim Lewis who are settling into a house in the provincial capital of Preah Vihear with a view to doing research and finding a Kuy village to move into in about a year's time.
