Birth of a Church
A
little over a year ago, a team of young people from the Crossroads
Church here in Phnom Penh spent two weeks in the village of Snaur. They
camped out in tents, tutored the village kids in Khmer language,
visited the families of the children and shared Bible stories. At that
time one of the village elders, Hun, was very interested in the gospel.
He opened his home for return visits from David (Malaysian missionary)
and the young people. Due to the influence of this 'man of peace', his
two fellow- elders and the village "kru Khmer", loosely translated
"witchdoctor," have all come to Christ.
A
couple of weeks ago a team went in to lead these elders in a ceremony
renouncing ties to the ancestral spirits and various other spirits that
they used to worship. Following this a team went in to clarify the
commitments of the new believers and to prepare them for baptism. Last
weekend members of seven families were baptized into the community of
faith!
Pray for the believers in the village of Snaur:
- that they will grow to maturity in Christ as they learn to hear from the Lord together
- that they will have the vision and zeal to reach their own village and beyond with the good news
- that the leaders would be faithful to live a holy life and provide an example of faithfulness, teachability and grace
