ION
Tom recently had the privilege of attending the International
Orality Network (ION) conference in Orlando Florida. For more
information go to www.oralbible.com. A key idea
that Tom came away
with as it relates to the Kuy people was the importance of a clear
understanding of their worldview. Culture can be imagined as an onion
with worldview at the center. Worldview is a structured set of
underlying assumptions upon which people base their lives. In order to
do a good job of presenting the Good News of Jesus to the Kuy people we
need to understand this deepest level of beliefs. Then we can choose
Bible stories to address three particular areas of worldview. These are
barriers where the beliefs differ
significantly from the Biblical worldview, beliefs which act as
bridges from their worldview to that of the Bible and gaps where the
worldview does not address an aspect of the Biblical worldview. One of
the most
difficult parts of cross cultural ministry is becoming aware of our own
worldview and how it also differs from the Biblical worldview. It is
our desire to present the Good News about God's plan for the nations,
not a message mixed with Western culture.
Please pray with us:
- for clear and honest appraisal of our own
worldview,
- for diligence and wisdom in collecting
information and forming an accurate understanding of Kuy worldview, and
- for the choice of Bible stories to help the
Kuy understand a Biblical worldview.
