Veal
Veng
Take the road past the pre-Angkorian ruins of Sambour Prey Kok to the
village
of Prasat. Take a left and go a couple kilometers up and you will find
the large village of Veal Veng. This is a Kuy village of about 300
families (population about 1200) with almost all the houses along this
one road. After the village there is no more road, just a track. It is
full of farmers, mostly quite poor. When Lynn visited recently one
woman
asked for help to bring her orphaned nephews to visit. They are living
in an orphanage in Phnom Penh. She regretted having to send them there,
but she could not care for all of the needy extended family.
Pastor Van (pronounced "Vawn") leads a church in the neighboring Khmer
village. He and some of his church members have been sharing the gospel
here. We are pleased that Pastor Van is currently taking some training
in Church Planting Movements (CPM). There are a couple of young men who
have believed in Veal Veng, but no
church yet. One of these young men, Yin, has a wife and two children.
His wife's parents are dead so he is also providing for his three
sisters-in-law, one of whom is deaf.
- Pray for wisdom for Pastor Van to successfully
implement CPM principles as he and his church members reach out to this
village.
- Pray for the new believers to grow in their
faith and to begin to share with family and neighbors.
- Ask that a house church would soon be
established, perhaps in Yin's house.
